It looks like the Oregonian is finally willing to recognize the damage from illegal immigration. This is from a recent front page article in the Oregonian (06/20/2010)*:
The trafficking is in people as well as drugs, and we pay dearly. Mexican migrants leave trash strewn across the desert, break into homes in search of food, receive treatment at hospitals and impose a burden on police. We have paid for autopsies for many migrants found dead in the desert.
We find tons of trash that these individuals leave behind, backpacks and cloths. They commit a lot of theft.
Legal experts say Washington bears some blame.
“The quality of law enforcement in border areas is generally weak, said Kevin Washburn… “It is primarily a federal responsibility, and the federal government’s commitment has been weak.
I did take the liberty of omitting one small detail (and changing some words accordingly) from the above quote: This article deals specifically with the impact of Mexican “migrants” upon Native American reservations. It seems that it’s alright to list the ills of illegal immigration as long as the victims are non-white. I challenge anybody to find a similarly negative take on illegal immigration (as it impacts whites) from the Oregonian or any major Western newspaper – except, perhaps, in the editorial section.
