My friend at Diversity Chronicle just sent me a copy of Chinese Girl in the Ghetto by Ying Ma. I found it to be riveting – as evidenced by the fact that I finished it in one sitting.
One of the Amazon reviews states that the author highlights racial tension in the Bay Area’s lower-income neighborhoods between blacks and Asians. This might be accurate, if by “tension” we mean a one-sided onslaught of callousness, abuse and hatred by blacks and Hispanics against Asians.
Ma describes ongoing black-on-Asian abuse in the introduction, where she writes (pg. xii):
Then the year 2010 arrived and brought forth multiple crimes that forced me to look at my book project in a wholly different light.
In April, two black teenagers punched a Chinese immigrant, 59-year-old Tian Sheng Yu, in the mouth in downtown Oakland. He fell on his head, spend the next few days in critical care, and subsequently died. The same two teenagers assaulted the victim’s 27-year-old son before and after they assaulted the father. Between late March and early April of the same year, five black teenagers assailed five older Asian women, including one who was 71 years old, on separate occasions in or near a public housing project on the Lower East Side of New York City. In late March, five black teenagers surrounded a 57-year-old Asian woman at a light rail bus stop in San Francisco; one of them grabbed her and threw her from the platform onto the rails before beating her. In January, black teenagers kicked and beat 83-year-old Huan Chen after he got off the same bus stop. He, too, died from his injuries.
Some of the perpetrators, like those who attacked Mr. Huan Chen, demanded money before they ran off laughing. Most, however, acted for no apparent reason aside from the satisfaction of perpetrating a beating.
After the attacks, an uncomfortable question stared everyone in the face: What role had racism played in motivating the attacks? In response, local officials and local media bent over backwards to deny or discount the issue of race…
Later (pgs.81,82), she describes her first experience with casual black theft, when other students stole her treasured, and sentimental, pen from her. She writes:
In the ghetto, however, I could not count on my classmates to know right from wrong, nor could I count on the adults to ferret out fault and dispense punishment. Standing in a church with less than a month under my belt in this new country, I clutched a stubby No. 2 pencil that I did not want, far away from my friends who would have never subjected me to the same display of shamelessness. Instead of my former classmates’ familiar faces, I now saw panhandlers who refused to take no for an answer, thieves who stole my belongings, and thugs who harassed my grandmother.
Others have already written about the problem of black on Asian crime. What this book brings to the table is, in my opinion, an excellent first-hand account of a young, naive, civilized person’s first encounter with savages. It also presents a thought-provoking comparison between two brutal, and failed, big-government approaches to social problems. I’ll quote another Amazon reviewer, M.J.R.:
But at a deeper level, it is a fascinating anecdotal account of the the unintended results of government planning in two very different societies
Indeed. Ma’s account of the heavy-handed way communist Chinese schools dealt with students (pgs. 35-40) should make American students treasure the freedoms they have, while her account of her aunt’s forced abortion (pg. 101) is a tearjerker. While tales of black racism, against Asians, are abundant, Ma does not delve into their root causes, other than to state (pg. 82):
I hated the three thieves. I hated their poverty, which had inspired them to covet my possession and conspired with them to take it from me. I hated their parents, who had failed to teach them that being poor was no excuse to steal.
But there can be little doubt that Ma is acutely aware of the fact that liberal government policies have taken normal black dysfunctions and magnified them considerably.
Thanks to her life experiences, Ma leans to the right. She supported California’s Proposition 209 (pg. 144) and, thanks to her life-experiences, is an active participant in American conservative thought and politics.
I doubt we’ll ever know if Ma appreciates the importance of HBD (Human Biological Diversity – or the reality of biological racial differences), her book exists at the crossroads of ethnic identity and HBD. Her experiences were similar to mine. She writes (pg. 16, after recounting a long fistfight she had with a racist Hispanic bully):
I firmly held onto my ethnic pride. In elementary school, I reverted to my Chinese name. In junior high school, I got into a fight.
Getting into a physical fight with one of her tormentors was an act of great courage on her part; it goes against the very nature of Asians in America, as Ma describes on several occasions, for example on page 146:
Shortly after I graduated from college, I saw a black woman shriek curses at a Korean man on a bus between New York City and Washington, DC. “You f—ing Chinese person! Didn’t you hear that I asked you to move your ass? You too stupid to understand English or something?” she berated him. Years later, I saw a black girl yell at the top of her lungs on a Manhattan-bound Number 7 train, “Man, I fucking hate Indian people. They smell, too, because I know they don’t wash.” Just as in Oakland, those who witnessed these incidents looked away and pretended nothing had happened. More often than not, I joined them in their silence.
But even if such verbal abuse is met with silence and retreat, it still has an effect on the target population. The effect is often a heightened sense of ethnic identity among the target population. In my case, years of forced busing in California, with its constant threats and intimidation by blacks (along with their grotesquely exaggerated sense of racial pride), helped reinforce my own ethnic identity. Both Ma and myself were acutely aware of our ancient heritages – as we each confronted the black inner-city non-culture of mindless savagery. I was 11 when I was thrust into the jungle. Ma was 10.
Ma comes close to supporting HBD. For example, on page 109, she writes:
The white students at school made up an extremely small minority of the student population, but along with certain Asian students, they were always present in the small number of “gifted” classes the school offered.
At some point, it must surely have occurred to Ma that the stark racial disparities she witnesses might be due not only to upbringing, but also to inherent differences between the races. Not wishing to destroy her career, she would have avoided stating so in her book.
Regarding Hispanics, she writes (pg. 124):
Over time, our street became browner, but not less poor or less dangerous. After a couple of years had passed, the two-story apartment building that the police had visited on my first night in the neighborhood became almost entirely populated by Hispanics residents…
Our new neighbors offered up blaring music every weekend, starting early in the morning and lasting well after dark. They also threw parties that caused hordes of cars to be parked everywhere along our block, on the curb, in front of our house, and sometimes in our driveway. On weekends and late afternoons, the children of the families who lived next door screamed outside, climbing over the fence into our backyard and horsing around on our front porch without permission.
After the Hispanics kids next door destroyed the Ma’s sunflowers, Ying found the courage to enter the offending childrens’ apartment to confront the parents – and, after telling the culprits’ middle-aged mother about their crime, the children were mercilessly spanked and forced to apologize.
Regarding busing, and its effects on white schools, Ma writes about transferring to a school in a whiter part of town. Unfortunately, many NAMs* had the same idea (pgs. 128,129):
Each day, they took public buses up the hill from neighborhoods farther away from the school, far poorer, and more unsafe than mine. Somewhere between where they lived and our high school, the buses stopped and I hopped on. Together, we made our way up to a pristine and beautiful part of town that neither their parents nor mine could afford to live in. On our way up, we caught a view of the bay that divided San Francisco from Oakland. On clear days, we could even see as far as San Francisco. At first I imagined that we were leaving behind the grittiness of Oakland. In reality, we were merely bringing it up to the hills.
Taking the book at face value, I admire Ying Ma. She’s not afraid of confronting her own flaws and sins. At the same time, we might say that she did a great job of “overcoming diversity.” I would hope that just as she was not afraid to expose the biased media and black racism in the past, so too will she speak up for what is right and take an openly pro-white stance. After all, Asians aren’t the only ones who suffer from black and Hispanic racism.
*Non Asian Minority
Reblogged this on ElderofZyklon's Blog!.
It’s odd that the article refers to “nonAsian minority” when “Hispanics”, aka “Native Americans” are of Asiatic origin. Very few have any true Spanish blood. It appears that Northeast Asians are more like Whites in goals and lifestyles and distance from the Southeast Asians.
It is very sad to read about the violence being done, just as it is being done to Whites.
This is the dumbest comment ever. Really? Chinese people have similar goals? If they had half the IQ they would 1.8 billion people would know they were suppressed and find away out of it. Living under the thumb of a dictatorship is a sign of low intellect. Same with North Korea and many many other parts of Asia… Large portions of China and many Asian countries are dirt poor and don’t even have proper infrastructure. Don’t base your entire opinion of a content on the 10 people that are resilient enough to make it out of there. If the US defended into a dictatorship, the first people to escape would be Bill Gates, Kanye West, Rupert Murdoch and Mark Zuckerberg… Are they a good sample of the US population…. I think not. Not enough low IQ hillbillies in that sample.
I’m glad you enjoyed the book. Thank you for a great review.
It is sad and shocking how profound long term suffering is created by busing. And by not controlling criminal behavior of Blacks. Modern Educational theory obviously does not control Black students in lower class neighborhoods, to the detriment of everyon. Asians, Whites, studious Blacks “acting white” are profoundly damaged. But even the below average Black would be better served by
a) strict discipline
b) basic school education for low IQ people, followed by vocational training. Like it is done in Switzerland.
I will post about this ……
I can’t agree with you more. May I suggest two other books, “White Girl Bleed a Lot” by Colin Flaherty, and “The Color of Crime” by Jarod Taylor. The last is available for free on line and only 80 pages, the other you have to buy b/c lefty ‘libarries’ refuse to stock it.
I have noticed that despite slavery, apartheid, segregation and all the other inequities whites have imposed on blacks, black-vs-white relations are far better than black-vs-other-races relations.
Blacks seem to realize that whites generally treat them better than any other race, and indeed better than other blacks treat them, and they return the favor except when their poor impulse control causes them to rob or rape. I have heard blacks express the view that an ideal world would consist of whites, blacks and no other races. (And yes, blacks do clearly identify Jews as a distinct race.)
Blacks owe whatever status they have in this world to whites. No other race would have abolished slavery or raised blacks up to the level they now enjoy. I doubt even Jews, who are generally leaders in Liberal thinking, would have time for blacks if whites did not exist. I don’t see Affirmative Action or Black Economic Empowerment in Israel.
Blacks are easy to lead. Jews seem to take the view that blacks are harmless to them because of their suggestibility. In modern times whites are generally unaware of just how gullible and hence controllable blacks are. An example of this is their strength of belief in the two alien religions to which blacks have been exposed: Christianity and Islam – in both cases blacks are more devout than the native believers. Blacks have a morbid fear of witchcraft. Other races of course consider this laughable and are bemused when blacks carry out strange rituals to protect themselves. But it’s not so odd when you consider that blacks can actually be harmed by witchcraft, can be even be killed by it, purely down to the strength of their almost hypnotic suggestibility.
Countries which have a black/white mixed population would be better off if whites realized their power over blacks and used it unashamedly to impose on blacks law and order and a productive way of life. Blacks have better strength and endurance than whites – they can succeed in an essentially white society, but not if white standards of behavior are expected of them, that’s just setting them up to fail.
Here is the problem with your thesis. While negroes can “succeed” in a white society, it is almost invariably at the expense of their hosts. The question you fail to ask is whether whites are better off for having negroes in their midst. And I believe the answer to that is very clearly, “no!”
Let me preface my comments with: “It was wrong for those black teens to do what they did to those Asians, and should suffer consequences under the full extent of the law.
Race realists, and now this Asian author, fail to connect the class factor, maybe intentionally, to these racial incidents. Granted, racism probably played a part in these assaults, but so did class. Two interesting experiments: 1) instead of placing the Asian author in a black ghetto as her introduction to America, place her in a middle class black community … 2) or place her in a blue-collar KKK or neo-nazi infested community; how different do you think her experience would have been?
I doubt class would make that much of a difference here. Furthermore, nobody tries to make such distinctions when low-class whites harass non-whites or gays. Instead, such incidents are pointed out as examples of “white racism.”
I agree. Homeless or poor people in Japan do not behave the same way as homeless or poor blacks in the US behave. Class doesn’t make a huge difference in this behavior, its race that is the critical factor.
I don’t have scientific research confirming my theory, but as a middle class black man living in a middle class black community, I think I can say with confidence: the Chinese author would not have experienced the same misbehavior in my community she experienced in that lower class community.
Normally I too would not have made the distinction, but it now seems standard fare to blame the black community in its entirety for the misbehavior committed by some. The undistinguishable term “white racism” may be used, but I think most people make the distinction mentally, that those committing racial assaults are lower class whites.
I can not reply to Wally Wally, so I have to do it here. He certainly has a point. But I have reservations. Even Asian and White kids bully and engage in cruelty. And I repeatedly read that the IQ of children of Blacks earning over US$ 100 k is lower then the IQ of Whites earning rock bottom, bottom 10%, or under 10k, or similar.
In other words, differences are so big, there probably still would be a danger. But, at this point, I probably should refrain from petty bean counting and appreciate his positive attitue and look at the truth within his statement.
Re: Wally Wally, you’re right that there is a tendency for pro-whites to paint all non-whites (especially blacks) with the same broad brush. As a matter of fact, I’ve already started a post about this. Hopefully I’ll publish it in a few days.
I think this is a fallacy. I think the vast majority of whites know something is deeply wrong with negroes. The liberal minded whites will think that white racism has a big role and that regardless they must help the less fortunate (especially if it’s a genetic condition). The more Republican minded will find government and bad social mores at fault. The more Realist will know negroes are what they are, that white policies do influence them, but that they can never “fit in” and become a net gain to white society. But it’s rare to find any white who truly believes negroes “are exactly like us” and is thus willing to live in a negro neighborhood or send their kids to majority negro schools.
With mestizos, I think you’ll find less cohesion of thought. The Realists will see primitive indians and Indian admixtures. They’ll see people smarter and more civilized than negroes, but still unable to uphold western civilization independently. Leftists will selfishly want mestizos as laborers and generally condescend to them. Republicans will want mestizo labor, but foolishly expect them to think and behave as whites.
With the northeast Asians like the author, I think all but the most reactionary whites pretty much embraces them as equals, but sees their educational achievements with some fear. Engineering classes at America’s top schools look like Beijing or Tokyo with virtually no whites or NAM’s. Most whites have much less experience with these Asians than we do with negroes and mestizos so we are still feeling our way in many respects, but I don’t know *anyone* who regards them as remotely the same as our old familiar primitive aliens.
Yeah. I should have said NAMs instead of non-whites. How often do we hear the term “mud people?”
This is one of the articles I never get around to write. That discriminations against Blacks is NOT AT ALL the same as discrimination against Jews or Chinese.
It is the exact opposite. And discriminations of English against Scots, or Germans against Poles really is rubbish.
A recently published study in Finland has confirmed the substantial effect of the 2-R allele of the MAOA gene on violent aggresion and criminal conduct in males. About 5% of black males in the US have this genetic trait versus about 0.1% of white males. This genetic trait may very well contribute substantially to the higher rates of violence observed in black populations.
BTW, anyone know what happened to unamusementpark.com?? If you do, I appreciate replying directly somewhere in http://www.human-stupidity.com as I might miss the answer here.
“But even if such verbal abuse is met with silence and retreat” – There isn’t really any percentage in challenging a crazy person on such things, and there also isn’t much of a way to tell the difference between crazy and mere hatred in such circumstances.
Wow… this is racist. My wife is Chinese and came here at a young age. Instead of living in Oakland she lived across the Bay in San Mateo. She had a very similar experiancies with being bullied by the “Whites People” in the nicest part of the Bay area. The truth is not race it is the majority group in the area showing there dominance over the few in the area. No different than any other bully who preys on the weak. Please look within yourself and stop being a bully.
The mainstream media is quick to publicize, and condemn, white on Asian bullying, but silent when it comes to Black on Asian/white bullying. If writing about this sort of bigotry makes me a “racist” then so be it.
