In a nutshell, I’ve moved to Dominican Republic for an extended period of time, and I’ve been busy building my life here, equipping my home with necessities, learning how things are done, and making lots of new friends.
Over the past few weeks, as I’ve neglected this blog, there have been many things I could have written about – but the inspiration wasn’t there, due to my mind being otherwise occupied.
I will share a video, from Patriot Nurse, that sums up a major reason I’m minimizing my time in the US:
The country I was born in no longer exists. With certain notable exceptions, one has more freedom in Dominican Republic than in the now mis-named “Land of the Free.” The same forces that moan and groan about slavery that took place 160 years ago are now imposing their own form of slavery. I want no part of it; I’d rather live the remaining years of my life in a place that cheaper, more free, and even SAFER than much of the United States. When I say “safer,” I mean from crime. Getting hit by a car, or drowning, is definitely more likely here.
In any event, I’ll get back to writing. I promise!
I’ve been debating leaving the States for a number of years now (various reasons keep me from being able to leave for another few years yet).
how difficult was it to move to the DR? What is the cost of living down there? The DR has been in my top 10 of places to go but, trying to get real, local information has been difficult
It’s not that hard IF you’ve got money to survive here in savings or passive income. The cost of living is far lower than the US, but rising. Inflation is taking its toll here too.
