Via blogragu, I found this article about China’s recent refusal to accept American plastics for recycling. According to Quartz:
The drop-off in Chinese demand, and the lack of immediately accessible alternatives, could hit American cities hard, says Quartz’s contact in the industry. “Cities are going to have a huge problem on their hands because they don’t know what to do with this stuff,” she says. “They have made commitments saying it’s recycled—but they didn’t say how or where.”
Not that the US couldn’t open new plants. But sorting trash to be recycled is labor-intensive, and therefore expensive. (The US’s failure to sort it properly is why China is turning US trash away.) And while optical sorters exist, those are expensive too. And either will raise costs for US cities.
At the same time, the U.S. government is spending a ridiculous amount of money on various welfare programs. According to various sources, around 110,000,000 Americans receive some sort of welfare from the government. The total cost, to taxpayers, is staggering. Since we’re spending huge amounts of money in charity, and since we now have a huge need for unskilled labor (sorting recyclables), wouldn’t it make sense to put some of those people to work doing the sorting and processing? If they’re physically incapable of working for 8 hours, make them work for 2 or 3 hours a day. If they can’t stand up, let them sit down as they work. If they lack the mental capacity to follow complex instructions, have them do the simple, repetitive, work.
If somebody objects that making people work for their money is “slavery”, then I’d like to know what you call it when the rest of us are forced to work, four and a half months, for the government.
Yes, these liberals are a huge dredge further lowering America’s minority cesspool. Why should people who murder, rape, do drugs, and sit on their ass all day be given extra welfare for every kid that they crap out? They should have to work for it, slavery or not. They dont realize just how badly they are fucking up America’s economy. If they refuse to work, cut off welfare. Cut off government housing. Cut off free lunch at schools. Everybody, even illegal immigrants earn their living, so why shouldnt you?
Speaking of enviroment issues, why don’t so-called enviromentalists address the massive nonwhite birthrates and future resource consumption they will have?
Now this is pretty funny. I didn’t know that they were now farming out recycling work to China, even though it makes sense.
There is a pretty good Penn and Teller on recycling ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs60OoMxNmY ) where they make the argument that we shouldn’t recycling anything except for metals like aluminum.
I don’t agree with everything they do (their immigration episode was barf worthy) they at least make you question things that you wouldn’t have otherwise thought of.
Recycling is one of those things that no one questions. Like diversity it is just assumed to be a good thing and if you don’t like it you hate the environment.
Paper recycling in particular requires harsh chemicals to get the ink out of the paper. This might be one reason why recycling has moved to China. No pesky environmental laws making it expensive to get rid of toxic materials.
But about welfare people working.
You know exactly what would happen. All of the Black and Hispanic leaders would be out comparing welfare to slavery and how a disproportionate amount of them are on welfare so it’s just another plan by evil Whitey to enslave them.
There is probably a good reason why no politician would ever bring this up.
Most social problems would be solved or greatly ameliorated by the abolition of (a) minimum wage laws and (b) welfare for the able bodied of working age.
But since a higher cost of living makes it impossible for workers in the West to survive on wages that are competitive with those paid in the sweatshops of Bangladesh and China, there should be a negative income tax providing all employed workers a basic payment of four or five dollars an hour, which would be clawed back gently with increasing income so as not to destroy the incentive for low paid workers to gain in skills, reliability, etc.
Hey JewAmongYou I have an unrelated issue/question.
There are a decent number of white advocate/racialrealist/whitenationalists blogs so it’s not that movements don’t have enough thought(in fact keeping track of all the blogs is a problem).
The biggest problem right now is that there exists no dedicated forums on white advocacy besides stormfront(which is unuseable for a number of reasons). This needs to change.
There needs to be a dedicated forum where we can organize and build events/engage in activision.
Is this something you or other amren members/bloggers have looked into?
While recycling has nothing to do with White advocacy, I must reply because of its importance.
I, too, have been encouraging activism with AmRen; however, to no avail. I gave them about 15 suggestions that we could do right now. Nothing. It would require donations; however, I don’t think that would be a huge problem since readers donate now.
Jared Taylor has become fearful of offending our opponents. Understandably, he has been banned from some outlets. AmRen has become politically correct.
I am still fighting to take our country back, while AmRen is resigned to a portion of the country for Whites. That may be how it works out, but I won’t hand over my country to Third-World foreigners without a huge fight.
My ancestors came here in 1644, at least one dying in every war since then. There are a few in Afghanistan, right now. They didn’t serve and die for foreigners. The fight is extremely personal for me and others whose ancestors helped build the United States. And, they didn’t build it so non-Whites could displace us and reap the benefits.
I hope you will encourage AmRen and others, such as TOO, NPI, etc, to get on the stick, representing us to government officials.
We need a civil rights organization, badly.
Amren’s comment section is not adequate for discussion, neither are blogs. There needs to exist a dedicated discussion forum(like stormfront) but with more grounded discussion for orgnization/activisim.
Jared Taylor has been doing his thing for over 20 years.
I wouldn’t describe AmRen as political correct, I just think it is more mainstream. Just seeing the number of comments and the fact that they do daily news and have moderators means they are relatively successful.
Matthew Heimbach recently did a demonstration where they (8 people) stood against communists in DC. At least that is something.
The White advocacy movement is very small compared to the general population and both political parties and the media are quick to stamp out any dissent. Just look at the recent debacle with Jason Richwine.
Any major people who might sympathize with us are literally scared for their livelihoods. Richwine didn’t even say anything that controversial, he got his doctorate at Harvard and he is still being attacked on all fronts.
It’s hard to get anything going because anyone involved has to not be afraid of losing their job. Which pretty much means mostly retired people, self employed people and people in college.
I think this is why most people think it will take a massive financial crisis or something else horrible to mobilize Whites. We might have to literally have our backs against the wall before we do anything.
Mass immigration is a billionaires’ project, that helps people like Mark Zuckerberg get their next billion.
To counter the propaganda of the plutocracy for the destruction of the nation through the import of cheap labor and the imposition multiculturalism you’d need something bigger than a web forum.
Alan MacFarlane’s short work, F.W. Maitland and the Making of the Modern World (available in PDF here) explains how, via the British Empire and the United States, English law of the Thirteenth Century gave rise to the modern world, the open society and individual liberty.
English law of the 13th century remains the basis of law in the Anglo-Saxon world and can still be employed by ordinary people to create powerful institutions that combat the corporatist and globalist agenda.
But it will take people as smart as Zuckerberg, and preferably smarter, to put together the coalitions of ordinary people that can create political lobbies and educational organizations to combat the propaganda of the billionaires. A million ordinary folks donating a thousand dollars a piece, or ten million donating a hundred dollars a piece would fund a lobby that could send Zuckerberg’s FWD.us to the recycling bin.
canspeccy,
You are right. Lobbyists, money, and a good PR campaign (marketing experts).
I actually brought this up on Amren before.
The closest I can think of Occidental Enclave. It’s in JAY’s blog roll.
I looked at it, it’s not bad but looks somewhat cluttered, if they redid it with Amrens website style(clean, plain colors, etc) it would be good. I don’t understand why amren or its members haven’t created a forum.
At the comment above the one I am replying to I think that IQ while valid needs to be ignored for the time being.
The issue which should be pressed first is that
1. Whites who value their genetic and cultural heritage and want to continue it should not be attacked and ridiculed for it by the media/education system and modern left.
This is something that can’t easily be argued against and those who do will be seen as anti-white even by the brainwashed mainstream.
Then move onto arguing that segregation by choice is part of this and denying whites the ability to self segregate goes against the rights to self determination and results in genocide.
We need to use the humanitarnism the left has idolized against them.
Oh I just messed with the styles on Occidental Enclave, it’s much nicer with style 9 which should be the default.
Speaking as an environmental engineer with some expertise in recycling, it is important to understand that no mechanical, optical or gravitational sorting process works except for electromagnetic recovery of iron. And that has to be done on unshredded waste if the iron is to be free of paper and plastic. (Shredding welds paper and plastic to iron.)
Also, anyone who will bother to look into the recycle bins at drop-off stations will see that the people dropping off the waste mix everything together: paper into plastic-only bins, plastic into iron-only bins, etc. This is not simply a matter of stupid people who can’t read signs. It happens on college campuses, too. When I taught solid waste management, I always dragged a recycling bin into class to show the students what was in it. Often we found garbage in the recycling bins.
So, all sorting must be done by hand, and this requires cheap, unskilled, unmotivated and unreliable labor.
It is also true that recycling markets are easily glutted, especially in paper, and manufacturers will sometimes charge recyclers fees to drop off the material. Only iron and aluminum have steady, dependable markets.
So what is the final word on recycling, if you happen to have an opinion.
Should we be recycling plastics and paper or just throwing that stuff out? I mean as a nation, not personally.
“At the same time, the U.S. government is spending a ridiculous amount of money on various welfare programs. Agreed.
Moreover, why not have school kids sort it as part of environmentally friendly education?
If parents object to their special little snowflakes doing something useful, then they could even be paid something, below minimum wage of course. As they progress in the work they could be given raises. This way they are taught the value of money as well.
But considering that its politically correct now to “go green” I don’t think we’d see much objection from parents if part of the educational experience is learning about the environment and doing something good for it.
You are forced to work four months and a half for the government ? And you call that slavery ? Some of us are forced to work seven months for our government !
