Racism: seek and ye shall find it

I once again had the misfortune of stumbling upon an abomination from the Oregonian.  So I thought I’d share it with the rest of y’all.  Misery loves company.  This one is from Thursday, May22 and is titled, “A rental market rife with RACISM“.  According to this article:

A survey performed last summer for the city of Portland found discrimination runs rampant in the rental housing sector.  In 50 cases in which the precisely scripted black or Latino person inquired about renting, 32 were found to be discriminated against…
We wonder, meanwhile, why there can’t be a simple, swift administration of punitive fines, something for which the city has no current apparatus in place…
Racism – another form of public threat, incidentally – is ripe for everyday law enforcement.
It isn’t even Portland’s reputation that’s at stake.  It’s Portland’s soul.

I assume that when an editorial lists no author, it is the official position of the newspaper.  Indeed, this sort of drivel fits in very well with the anti-white, socialist attitudes of the Oregonian.
Americans have been conditioned to believe that discrimination is wrong and that laws against it are justified.  After all, nobody likes being discriminated against.  I don’t like being discriminated against.  I don’t like it when I ask a lady out and she rejects me.  That’s discrimination.  It’s no fun when I’m not invited to a party either.  That’s discrimination.  Since the article speaks of “landlords” we can safely assume that it is private property that is spoken of here.  “Private property” means the owner gets to choose to whom he will sell, rent or lease.  This is what it means to own property.  Nobody has the right to dictate that a property owner must sell or rent to certain people or refrain from denying a lease to others.  This is his decision and his alone.  If we live in a society where racial discrimination is frowned upon, then word will get out that certain landlords discriminate on the basis or race and the market will punish them.  There is no need for the heavy hand of the law.
Furthermore, the article never bothers to ask what would motivate somebody to refuse perfectly green money simply because of the race of the prospective renter.  It simply assumes and the only motivation is baseless hate.  My hunch is that the author of this article does not live in a complex where a majority of the tenants are black or Hispanic.  Did any of the researchers even bother to ask the landlords why they preferred white tenants?  I doubt it.  What we have here is a perfect case of prejudice.
Another question the city of Portland (and the Oregonian) do not seem eager to ask is how prevalent is racism against whites?  I would wager that not a single penny was ever spent, by any governmental agency in Oregon, in order to find anti-white racism.  It is not hard to figure out why this might be so:  Government agencies are among the worst discriminators against whites.  While the Oregonian is worried about a few racially conscious landlords discriminating against non-whites, all levels of government are busy systematically discriminating against whites.  Such anti-white discrimination is both legally required and practiced informally.
What is “fair housing”?  Fair housing is when owners of private property are allowed to use their property as they see fit.  It is when people are not forced to live with those they do not wish to live with, otherwise known as “freedom of association”.  Fair housing is when landlords need not fear government agents spying on their preferences in tenants in order to persecute them and torment them later.
I am well aware that there is nothing new in this post; it is just jewamongyou venting.  I’ll have something new for y’all tomorrow.

"He who controls the past…"

George Orwell  wrote, in 1984, “He who controls the present, controls the past. He who controls the past, controls the future.”  Our rulers, and their media lapdogs, understand this well.  What is considered “history”, by the hostile elite, tells us what their intentions are for the present and future.
The Oregonian recently ran a front page side article titled, “Oregon history quiz”.  The ostensible purpose of the article is to illustrate how ignorant most Oregonians are of their own history.  In reality, the article is an insidious attempt to reinforce the racial hierarchy of “black-run America” (coinage from Occidental Dissent).  In black-run America, blacks are the Brahmans while whites are untouchables.  Hispanics are of intermediate caste.  As soon as I saw that the Oregonian was publishing a “history quiz” I instinctively knew that at least one of the questions would specifically deal with blacks.   The question topics are:
1)  A politician who supported construction of the Bonneville Dam.
2)  When did Oregonians approve initiative and referendum laws?
3)  Was Oregon the first state to hold a vote-by-mail election?
4)  A pro-slavery governor (of Southern origin) in Oregon 1848.
5)  History of environmentalism in Oregon.
6)  After the flood of 1948, where did the hub of Oregon’s black community temporarily move to?
7)  An Oklahoma Indian tribe that traces its ancestry to Oregon.
As for #7, it is understandable that native American history should be included in our history.  After all, they were the only inhabitants of what is now Oregon for a very long time.  So their inclusion, in our history, needn’t have any political undertones.  But, of the 7 questions, 2 pertain to blacks.  One of them specifically.  There are no questions about the Jews of Oregon, or the Chinese or any other group.  It is not explained why the temporary hub of the “black community” should be of any importance to the non-black citizens of Oregon.
Unfortunately, in the minds of the masses, the MSM controls the past.  Clearly, it is their goal to use the past (or their selective version of it) as a tool to impose slavery upon whites with blacks being their masters and the Chosen People.  I did write a letter to the editor regarding this and I would encourage the rest of y’all to do so as well.  Perhaps, if they hear from enough of us, they will realize how ridiculous their worship of blacks appears to normal people.

Madagascar, an "African" island part II

Robert Lindsay has taken issue with my post about black Africans not being capable of reaching Madagascar even though it is so close to the African coast.  Here are his objections:
1)  There may have been pre-Austronesian people in Madagascar long ago – who got there by boat.
2)  Madagascar is not just a few miles off the coast of Africa.  It is 250 miles away.
3)  Africans of 70,000 years ago colonized the rest of the world by boat so clearly they are capable of such technology.
I don’t buy #3 because there is no evidence that the Africans who left Africa 70,000 years ago were negro nor am I aware of solid evidence they traveled by boat.  But more importantly, the whole “out of Africa” theory is shaky and in serious doubt.
As for #1 and #2, these are valid points worthy of further discussion.
For a while now, the question of the negritos has been bugging me.  The negritos are short-statured, dark-skinned peoples who used to inhabit a vast area from the islands of the Indian Ocean all the way to Japan.  Genetically, they are distinct from African negroes and, by most accounts, their average I.Q. is lower.  Though it has usually been assumed that these small people must have reached the islands by boat, somebody (I lost the link) brought up an interesting point: What about the various animal species that lived on isolated islands?  Did they also build boats in order to get there?  The point is that if we allow for the possibility that animals could have colonized the islands by accidentally floating there on driftwood, then the same possibility exists for humans.  This being said, my gut feeling is that the ancestors of the negritos did arrive by boat and this was before they had evolved to their current small size possibly through insular dwarfism.  It is very likely, in my opinion, that the sea-faring ancestors of the negritos had a higher average I.Q. than their modern descendants.  The same selective forces that brought about small stature would also have brought about smaller brains (the brain is the largest consumer of calories among the organs).  In other words, high I.Q. would have been counter-adaptive on these small islands.  The costs would not have justified the benefits.   But Madagascar is not a small island.  It is huge.  Perhaps these people evolved into negritos on the nearby Comoros islands and then found their way to Madagascar.  Be it as it may, the presence of indigenous people in Madagascar, prior to the arrival of the Austronesians, is not relevant to my point unless it is shown that these people came from Africa.   The negritos are more distant, genetically, from black Africans, than any other group.
As for Madagascar being more than just a few miles off the coast of Africa, I shall concede this point to Mr. Lindsay.  I will even add to it that the Indian Ocean currents favor a trans-Indian Ocean voyage over an Africa to Madagascar voyage.  At the same time, the vast difference in distance between Bornea and Africa to Madagascar should not easily be dismissed.
Robert Lindsay is not exactly a race-realist and certainly not a white-nationalist.  But I like a lot of what he writes and he is a gentleman.  Also, he links to this blog.  So I have added his blog to my own blogroll.

The tragedy of Madagascar and of Europe

My travel adventures have come to an end and it is time to start posting, in earnest, my reflections on what I have seen.  Also, now that I am home, I can start posting some of the many photos I took overseas.  I’ll start with some photos of the original inhabitants of Madagascar,  the lemurs.  I took many photos of them, which include several species (the posted photos have all been reduced in resolution.   If anybody wants the original, high resolution photos, let me know).  I even got some nice videos of them.  They are very interesting animals.

Their rival, in beauty, is the chameleon.  I was able to see, and photograph, a few wild ones but they were not as spectacular as the ones I saw in the reptile reserves.

I saw many Baobab trees in Madagascar.  Apparently there is some disagreement as to how to pronounce “Baobab”.  So I ended up using the Malagasy word for just one of the varieties: fumi (pronounced “foomee”) while there.  The bark of the fumi is widely used for housing construction.  After a fumi dies, there is an edible mushroom that grows on it.  I would have tried it but it must be cooked properly or it is poisonous.
One of the things that struck me, after I had time to reflect on the many things I saw in my travels, was the symbolism of the baobab tree versus the cathedrals.  The baobab trees, growing in their natural environment, seem to hold up the heavens.  They seem to say, “we are the pillars of the status quo and we are here to ensure that the world carries on as it always has.

In contrast, the cathedrals of Europe – though they resemble huge trees or forests – seem to say, “we strive to pierce the heavens and defy gravity, even nature itself as we test the limits of what humans can build.”  Cathedrals are, in my mind, the baobabs of Europe.  And, even though the baobabs do not contain lemurs, the cathedrals do have their own lemurs, so to speak.  From their lofty heights, the gargoyles gaze down upon the masses.  Their own grotesqueness is now dwarfed by what they witness on the streets of Europe but they do, in a way, resemble lemurs.  One wonders if some early explorers, having seen lemurs, provided the inspiration for those gargoyles*.

The ambition that drove Europeans to breach the clouds with their cathedrals, also lead them to explore new lands and subjugate their peoples.  Although, in theory, Madagascar gained its independence from France in 1960, it still appears to be a colony.  When confronted with Europeans, even the Malagasy elite must surely have realized how primitive they were in comparison.  To this day, the Malagasy is daily reminded of the paucity of his own heritage, culture and language.  The Malagasy language, though still very much alive, is heavily influenced by French.  It goes without saying that they have many French loan-words.  This is to be expected.  But the influence of French goes well beyond this.  Even the place-names in their own country are often pronounced in the French version.  About half the billboards are in French, as it is considered the language of the elite.  The capitol, Antananarivo, is designed very much like a French city right down to the cobblestone streets.  Many of the street names are in French and many of them commemorate historical French figures or events. Madagascar is still the playground of the French, who flock there for their vacations.   The French make no effort to learn Malagasy because they don’t need to; almost everybody can speak French.  The traditional religions of Madagascar are rapidly retreating in favor of Christianity.  Within a couple of generations, Malagasy rituals and holidays will take the same role that pagan European rituals and holidays take now – surviving only in the shadows and disguised as “Christianity”.
The Malagasy is reminded of the inferiority of his own heritage every time he opens his mouth.  That foreigners can arrive and have their pick of Malagasy women is also a relic of the colonial mentality.  There is a general lack of national esteem and and their leaders, though they provide security and order, do not seem to be taking the nation in any particular direction as far as I could tell.  It appears as if the Malagasy must make a choice: become modern and relinquish almost all of his heritage or retain his heritage and remain primitive.  What they need is a dynamic and distinctive Malagasy culture that is geared toward the future.  This is difficult when 18 ethnic groups, each with its own traditions, inhabit the island.

In the end, the ambitions and ingenuity of the Europeans broke through the natural barriers of nature, the barriers of distance and the oceans.  For a while, Europe was able to maintain control over the forces it had unleashed but it was inevitable that the genie, once let out of the bottle, would become its own master.  Now it is Europe that is being colonized.  Over time, the cathedrals will crumble – but the baobab will remain.
*By way of analogy, the stained glass windows resemble chameleons in their vivid colors.

Europe is doomed

As some of you may have gathered, I’ve been in Europe the last few days.  I’ve been hopping around with a Europass and staying at cheap hotels and hostels.  I’ve seen many wondrous things here.  Cathedrals, castles, museums and statues.  All of them tributes to the great civilization that created them.  I am pleased to report that Europeans are having babies, at least in the more Germanic parts I’ve been to such as Venice*, Vienna and parts of Germany.

On the other hand, most of Western Europe is clearly in decline.  Graffiti is almost everywhere.  There is widespread miscegenation between young white women and black men.  These couples are everywhere and they make it a point to be seen.  I get the impression that there is not a single town or village, in all of Western Europe, that is free of blacks.  I asked a young man today how many African immigrants should be let into Europe.  I pointed out to him that probably half of Africa would love to come to Europe.  His response was that he doesn’t care; if things got too bad, he would just find someplace else to live – and this man was born here, as were his parents and grandparents and so on.

I thought about the above response and realized that the decline of Europe has its roots in the industrial revolution (and, of course, the French Revolution – but that’s a different topic).  During the industrial revolution, people left the rural areas for the cities in order to work in factories.  They considered this preferable to working the fields all day.  While it is not my place to judge them, a downside to this trend was that people became disconnected from the land.  Previously, most Europeans could point to the land they worked, and the immediate vicinity, and say, “I have worked this land my whole life, as did my father and his father and his father for centuries.  They are all buried here and, some day, so will I.  The fruit of the land is closely linked to my ancestors.  Not only because they worked the same land, but their sweat is mixed in with the soil that yields its fruit.  Thus, my flesh and bones are the flesh and bones of my ancestors.”  When this intimate connection, between ones ancestors, himself and his land, was broken, the stage was set for the destruction of Europe.  Today’s Europeans, at least most of them, feel no great connection with the land.  They feel no great connection with their ancestors.

The fact that most Europeans tolerate the desecration of their monuments and building, through graffiti, is the same mentality that allows them to tolerate the desecration of their women by Africans.  They simply don’t give a damn or, more accurately, not enough of them do.

In the beginning, before the onset of mass immigration, disaster could have been avoided through sensible immigration policies and border controls.  Now that so many have already entered, immigration control would be like locking the barn door after the horses have escaped.  It is far too late for that.  I recently read a statistic that 52% of the babies  born in Paris are black.  I don’t know if this is accurate, but it is easy to believe.  France is well on its way to becoming Europe’s first black country.  While most of the rest of Western Europe is, as far as I can tell, still solidly white, this state of affairs will not continue.  Sub-Saharan Africa is a ticking population time-bomb.  Probably half the men in Africa want nothing more than to move to Europe – and it is clear to me that their main motivation is to get at white women.  They are not hungry in Africa and there are plenty of opportunities in there.  But Europe has put a great big sign over itself stating, “come and get your white women!  Buy one, get one free.”

In a libertarian world, this state of affairs would never have happened.  Central governments would have had no power to (essentially) import millions of aliens into Europe.  There would have been no authority to force such an invasion upon the natives and people would be free to educate their children to be proud of their heritage.  But now that the crime has been committed, the only way Europe can possibly save itself from a slow death would be to take drastic measures.  Nothing short of a Nazi-style racially conscious fascist regime could make a dent in the problem.  The regime would have to deport hundreds of thousand of people, many of them children who were born in Europe and know no other home.  It would have to separate families, fight urban battles and uproot entire communities.  Obviously, such a scenario is not going to happen and this is why I say Europe is doomed.

I wanted to point out that I saw noticeably fewer black male/ white female couples in Italy.  My theory (assuming my observation is correct) is that the Italians have two advantages: a macho culture that allows their men to hold their own in competition for women and the presence of classical art everywhere.  Classical art can train the eye to look for certain ideals.  It shows the viewer what human beauty is supposed to look like.  The classical face is about as different from that of the negro as can be.  When young people are constantly exposed to classical art, their concept of beauty is shaped accordingly and they are less likely to seek a mate whose appearance is at odds with these ideals.  This is a gift their Roman ancestors left them.

I have much more to say about Europe but I wanted to publish this particular post while I’m still in Europe.

*Not that Venice is “Germanic”, but the people are certainly not Mediterranean.

Curious Malagasy customs

I was told (by more than one person) that when a couple wishes to marry, they are expected to cohabit for a couple of years.  In the meantime, they save up for the wedding.  During the wedding, the groom must publicly advocate his worthiness to marry the bride.  The bride’s family might raise objections and a debate is held.  If the groom loses the debate, he cannot marry his betrothed and he remains single – but is still saddled with the wedding expenses.  In order to minimize this risk, the groom, or his family, will typically hire a professional advocate, called a “pikabari”.  The pikabari’s reputation depends upon his success rate – just like attorneys in the West.  Top-notch pikabaris can fetch a hefty price.
Circumcision is practised among the Malagasy.  The grandfather (paternal, I think) is expected to swallow the foreskin with banana.  I am not sure what they used before bananas were imported to the island.  In any event, this is one reason I am happy I am not Malagasy.
In the days of the monarchy, a large sea shell (I forget the species) was used as a sort of trumpet to gather the people in times of peace.  In times of war, a Zebu horn was used instead.  The Malagasy have many uses for the Zebu.  It is a common beast of labor and its meat is a staple.  I was even told there is a Malagasy style pizza – which features chunks of Zebu meat.  Among the polygamous African tribes of the South, men use Zebu to buy their wives.
Today I bought a couple of traditional Malagasy music CD’s.  I’ll find out what they sound like upon my return.  I also got some of that famous Malagasy vanilla.  I hope it doesn’t go bad quickly when not refrigerated.

Racial patterns in Madagascar

I had hoped to interview a bunch of English-speaking Malagasy about their various ethnic groups, stereotypes about them and inter-ethnic mating patterns.  Alas, very few people here speak English so all I have to go on is several conversations I had with individuals.
The following opinions were unanimous:
1)  Overall, black African Malagasy are less intelligent than Asian Malagasy.  As one individual put it, “what have blacks invented?”
2)  Overall, black African Malagasy are more likely to be criminals – though crime is not a big problem in Madagascar.
I should add that one person identified an Asian ethnic group as having the worst reputation for being fools and irresponsible:  The Betsileo.  But this person also said that, aside from that, the black tribes are known to be less intelligent.
As for marriage patterns, three people clearly stated that, when an Asian Malagasy marries a black Malagasy, the male is always black and the female always Asian.  One person said the opposite – but I’m fairly certain he was confused with the question; my own observations agree with the others.  I’ve seen several black male/Asian female couples and not one the other way around.
Though what I have done is, by no means, a scientific study, it does confirm the notion that interracial dating patterns are biological in origin and not cultural.  A leftist will claim that, somehow, French colonialism or Western media had something to do with it.  But why would the French have advanced the status of black males over Asian males?  All they were interested in was advancing their own status. As for Western media being a culprit, I find this hard to believe in a nation where the vast majority don’t even have electricity – let alone television.  They live in mud, or thatched, huts and draw their water from the river.   None of the Malagasy I spoke to had any idea why the rules are set as they are; it is a total mystery to them.  There was no indication that things had once been different either.
One individual, who is Christian, said that God gave each race the tools it needs to succeed.  The Asians got intelligence, the blacks got physical prowess and the whites a balance of the two.  I didn’t want to spoil it for him with distinctions between North and South Asians.
I have seen no indication, whatsoever, of any animosity between the Asian and black groups.  As far as I can tell, there is peaceful coexistence.
If it’s true that Madagascar adheres to the same racial patterns we see everywhere else, then this is  a nail in the coffin of the notion that they are the product of culture.  Are we to believe that every culture miraculously produced the same results?
We do find some white male/ black female couples in Madagascar.  This is to be expected due to the vast economic disparity between the two groups.  If not for this disparity, such couples would be around 20-30% just as we find in Western countries.  If the Asian Malagasy were significantly wealthier than the black ones, my guess is that maybe 10% of the mixed couples would involve an Asian man and a black woman.
I had mentioned, in a previous post, that somebody had told me that the Merina (an Asian, and the largest, ethnic group here) focus more on intellectual pursuits.  I now realize this is an exaggeration.  The vast majority of Merina, just like everybody else, are dirt poor and probably have little time for any pursuit other than surviving.  A more accurate statement would have been that, among the elite, the Merina are overrepresented.   It should be noted that most Merina have substantial black heritage and that many “black” Malagasy have some Asian heritage.  The lines are fuzzy.
When I asked one man whose women are the most beautiful, he mentioned a particular tribe whose women look like Arabs.  It is easy to see why, in Africa, sharp features are c0nsidered attractive.  I saw many blond children on the coast.  I was told this is from pirates of long ago.  Apparently the population was so small, hundreds of years ago, that even a few blond pirates were enough to produce a widespread trait today.  Maybe they’re all descended from the same pirate.

The "sex-tourists" of Madagascar

Yesterday I made an excursion to Montadia National Park in order to observe the largest species of lemur – the Indry Indry.  In the end, I was able to observe, and photograph a whole troupe of them and some other species of lemur as well.  I also visited a refuge for various reptiles and paid a visit to my favorite reptiles: the chameleons.  Words cannot describe their beauty.  I saw a couple of wild chameleons and, of course, some geckos as well.
My driver spoke somewhat decent English and the drive was a long one, so I posed many questions to him about Malagasy culture, the various ethnic groups (there are 18 major ones), burial traditions, monuments, traditional dress, marriage customs, language etc. etc.  I mentioned something that a hotel owner in Morondava had told me.  He had said something to the effect of, “the Malagasy do not like the French so much.   The French raped them in the past and they still do so today; look at all the sex-tourists”.  I wasn’t sure what the hotel owner meant by “sex-tourists” but it was clear that, in his opinion, any form of prostitution is equal to rape.  I couldn’t help but notice that this expat American’s wife was considerably younger than him and was clearly of Asian descent – not African like most of the people in that part of Madagascar.  The man was obviously well-off.  I wondered if it was purely coincidence that a young, beautiful Malagasy had fallen for him and that his prestige/money had nothing to do with it.  I thought that he might be a bit of a hypocrite – but I don’t know him personally so I cannot pass judgment upon him.  But back to my conversation with the driver.  I was curious about this odd, and despised, animal known as the “sex-tourist”.  Do men really travel over 5,000 miles just to have sex in a backward country?  Are there not many legal, and safe, brothels in Europe?  I’ve seen many people here in Madagascar.  I’ve seen many natives and many tourists, most of them (apparently) French.  Not once did I see any obvious signs of the “sex-tourist”.  Maybe they’re nocturnal.
I asked Andjry, my driver, what he considered a “sex-tourist”.  Is anybody who visits Madagascar, and hires a prostitute, a “sex-tourist”?  His answer was that anybody who comes here with the intention of preying upon children is a sex-tourist.  As for hiring prostitutes, many natives do it – as do many tourists – but this is merely a transaction between adults.  Nobody gets hurt and nobody  cares.  In fact, having been a prostitute does not even carry a stigma among Malagasy women.  Their future potential husbands rarely care.  When he told me all this, I told him my own theory:  The hotel owner in Morondava is a “sex-tourist” and his mentality is a colonial one.
When foreigners visit a country, and impose their own morality upon the natives, this is a form of colonialism.  In America, prostitution is “naughty”, “evil” and usually criminal.  It is not socially acceptable.  But this American attitude is not shared by much of the world.  Many indigenous cultures view sex much more openly than do Americans.  The Trobriand islanders are a classic example.  I think the world has much to learn from Americans – but our uptight, Puritan, views on sex should not be for export.  This being said, I do think there is a fine line between casual, commercial sex on the one hand, and a sexual invasion on the other.  If large numbers of foreign men visit a land in order to take advantage of their women, this will obviously have negative consequences.  For example, the large number of African men streaming into Europe are “sex-tourists” of the worst kind.  They bring disease and violence and they have no intentions of ever leaving.  The early European sailors, who colonized Polynesia, might be considered “sex-tourists” and they diluted the native populations of many islands.
I spent a lot of time on, and near, the beach in Morondava.  I didn’t see any men hunting for prostitutes.  Nobody walked up to me and asked, “hey, where can I get some local children to have sex with”.  I did see two women, who were obviously prostitutes, loudly and aggressively trying to sell their services on the beach.  They tried to push themselves upon me – so if there was a “victim”, it was yours truly.  I just ignored them.  Were those two women desperately poor?  Were they starving and lacking any other alternatives?  This was not the impression I got.  It seemed to me they just wanted some easy extra money.  As far as I could tell, there were no takers.  If they did find a customer, then I’m sure all parties would have been happy; no need to call the authorities or get upset that “sex-tourism” had taken place.

"Blacks don't care about nature"

Today I visited the Ifaty reserve to see the Baobab trees, lemurs and whatever else local nature has to offer.  My mostly African guide, Freddy, really knew his stuff.  His expertise at finding wildlife, coaxing them out for the camera and local flora is amazing.  He thought I was joking when I told him that, in America, the sun is in the South.  I asked him about tourists and how frequently he conducts tours.  He told me that it varies depending on the season.  Certain times of the year bring a lot of French and other times bring South Africans.  I asked him if the South Africans are mainly white or black.  He replied that only white South Africans come to see the park.  When I asked why he thought this was so, he replied that only whites care about the birds, the animals and the trees.  Blacks don’t care about these things.”  My impression was that he, of course, was an exception; he makes his living from the forest and I would like to think that he feels a connection to it other than simply as a source of income.  Either way, he got a nice tip from me.  Thanks to him, I got some really nice photos of a wild lemur and other critters (he climbed the tree to coax it out for my camera)!  The connection here is too slow to upload them.  You’ll have to wait until after my return.

Will eating Zebu make you black?

Some might say “yes”.  After all, Jewamongyou is a few shades darker and he is sitting eating Zebu as he writes this post.  But I think the darker skin probably has more to do with the tropical sun (a welcome change from rainy Oregon!).  Hopefully the Zebu will have no ill effects on my stomach.  It tastes alright.
Right now I’m in Toliara, AKA Tolear.  I didn’t know what to expect but it turns out it is a very African place to be.  Women walking around with large loads on their heads, beasts of burden (including Zebu) still being used as transport – but more commonly man-power, women with painted faces and miserable conditions.  But the people are very agreeable despite so many of them being persistent beggers.  Even here, on the coast, Indonesian features are evident – though not as much as in Antananarivo.
It was France I had departed from to reach Madagascar and, while there, it was obvious to me that France is rapidly becoming Africanized and Islimicized.  My brief stay in Paris was very depressing.  So, even though I’m finding Africa to be thoroughly fascinating, I wish it would stay in Africa.  After my return, I’ll be posting some photos from my trip – so y’all will have something to look forward to.
I’ll part with an interesting story.  While sitting at the airport in Paris, a man came up and sat next to me.  He was Malagasy and, with his broken English and my limited French, we were able to communicate.  I asked him if he was Merina (the main tribe of Madagascar, whose origins are mainly in Indonesia).  When he replied in the affirmative, I asked him if he thought all the Malagasy at the airport were Merina and he smilingly agreed that this was probably the case.  Then he added that other Malagasy groups, which have more African in them, tend to be less intelligent.  His theory was that it is very easy to survive on the coast (where the Africans live) but more of a challenge in the central highlands.  Therefore, the Africans didn’t need much intelligence.  They usually get jobs in the army or police while the Merina cultivate their minds.  I thought to myself, “he must have read Rushton”.  But then it came time to board.  The plane was extremely large, built for the 5,400 mile journey ahead of it and holding hundreds of people.  Well… my seat just happened to be right next to the man I was talking to.  So now Solo and I are somewhat acquainted and he’s going to show me around Antananarivo when I return there in a few days.
