Vietnamese imperialism against Cambodia

I was raised in a generation that was trained to view the Vietnamese as victims of American atrocities.  Growing up, we were treated to images of children burned by napalm,  stories of Agent Orange and “secret” bombings.  My generation was the first to experience the naked horrors of war via television and the first to view government crimes against humanity on our color screens.
But, like most things in life, the truth is far more complicated.  There are rarely clear-cut “good guys” and “bad guys” when it comes to national/ethnic rivalries.  Today, I was chatting with a Cambodian woman and she claimed that the version of Indochinese history I had been taught was all wrong.  In her view, the Vietnamese had not rescued Cambodia from the Khmer Rouge.  Rather, they were the ones who instigated the genocide in the first place, and then used it as an excuse to expand their empire throughout Cambodia.  With great sadness, she explained that the border between Vietnam and Cambodia is an “open border”.
The term “open border” is loaded – especially when one of the two countries, that shares that border, has a population of 86 million while the other one has only 14 million.  In practice, what this means is that Cambodia is being inundated with Vietnamese.  When I asked the woman if this meant that Cambodians are becoming a minority within their own country, she nodded and almost cried.  She, herself, had almost been murdered by the Khmer Rouge – for the crime of being a city-dweller.
“Open borders” is a euphemism for the domination, by populous nations, over less populous ones.  In days gone by, it was advanced culture and technology or military might that determined who was the victor and who the vanquished.  Now, it is fertility or sheer numbers (the fruits of past fertility).
According to Cambodiana:

These definitions of these major concepts in international relations, known as sino centric “Tributary System”, before the advent of the United Nations demonstrates that Vietnam is not a liberator of Cambodia as they claimed to be. On the contrary, Vietnam colonialism and imperialism is the worst of its kind. Because, unlike western powers colonialism, Vietnam has not been only interested in  occupying the land of Chams and the Khmers only for economic exploitation purposes  only; it also had committed genocide against those original people of Champa and the Kampuchea Krom, to eliminated them from their ancestral land. SO, for Vietnam, to claim that it invaded Cambodia to save it., is to say the least, a lie.

Few people, listening to the Cambodian woman above, would describe her as “racist” or “Cambodian-supremicist”.  All she wants is the survival of her people and an end to their displacement by a similar, related group.  Few reasonable people could fault her for that.  How much greater is the tragedy of the British, the French, the Dutch and the Swedes, whose nations are being replaced by those who bear no resemblance to them – except insofar as they are human.
Perhaps the pro-white movement should shift its focus a bit and concentrate on opposing open borders of any kind and anywhere.  It is not only whites who suffer from open borders, although the loss of the white race would certainly have the largest impact on Mankind overall.  It is sad when one people seeks to destroy another.  It is even sadder when a people seeks to destroy itself.

hbd for cats – by menchi cat

many believe that hbd is only for people.  but this is not true.  we cats have our own hbd but we call it fbd for feline biodiversity.  fbd is important for cats.  you see, my momma was a siamese but my poppa was a tabby.     tabbys are cute and cuddly but they are not good daddies; they never stick around.  did you  know that a tabbys personality can be judged by his markings.  i found an internet site that says this

Most of the tabby cats are known to be happy-go-lucky by nature, while some of them are ferocious and get angry if their wishes are not fulfilled. They love to play around and are usually more attracted to a particular person in the house, who does all the tasks related to their day to day routines. The colors of the stripes on the body do determine the tabby cat personality. Those cats which are black or white in color are said to be cool and people loving. Some tabby cats are shy and love to spend hours in a peaceful and quiet place. They enjoy to be treated with love, care and handled softly while lifting or playing with them.*

you humans think that cats dont care about color but we do.  we notice it all the time.  when i see another cat close to my house, the first thing i notice is her color and markings.  if i dont like her i hiss – well okay, i always hiss at other cats.  we also notice their smell.  i dont like the smell of other cats.  i do like the way people smell, especially jewamongyou.
each race of cat has a personality that it is likely to have.  somebody on the internet wrote this

  • Persian – Persians are very calm and laid back kittens, with the Himalayans (color points) being a bit more vocal. They require lots of grooming!
  • Maine Coon – The Maine Coon is one of the largest of pet cats, and they are said to have a very dog-like personality and are known for games of fetch.
  • Exotic – The Exotic has the personality of a Persian without all the grooming requirements.
  • Siamese – The easily recognizable Siamese is a very intelligent, loyal, and vocal kitty. Abyssinian – Abyssinians love everyone they meet and are a very active and playful breed.
  • Ragdoll – Ragdolls gained their popularity for going limp in your arms when you pick them up. They are so docile that it is dangerous to let them outdoors unattended. They are another very large breed!
  • Birman – Birmans are said to adjust to their family’s routine as they are easily adaptable. They have long hair but are also very easy to groom.
  • Oriental – The Oriental is very people-oriented, not as chatty as the Siamese but has the same great looks.American Shorthair – The American Shorthair is one of the best breeds around children. The most popular purebred American Shorthair is silver with black tabby striping.
  • Tonkinese – The Tonkinese can be a strong-willed kitty, but they have such a fun personality that it makes up for it if you have the patience to train them properly. They are very loving, and grooming is practically carefree.**

i think this is true because i am half siamese and i am very smart.  but i still dont understand what the shift key is for.  jewamongyou tried to explain it to me.  he is even smarter than i am.
i know there are no jewish cats but there are jewish katz, but i never met one.  if i do i hope they smell good.
among cats, we understand that our races are different.  we dont care.  there are no liberals among cats.  we usually hate each other anyway.

Mercator projection

The Earth is roughly spherical but, unless one is using a globe, our representations of it are flat.  This presents a problem, for any flat representation of a spherical object must distort the original in some way.  As a child, I had a large map of the world on my wall.  It helped me learn geography as my young mind traveled to exotic places using the cheapest plane tickets possible: flights of imagination.  My map used the Mercator projection, which made Scandinavia appear to dominate Europe.  Greenland looked as large as Africa.

For a long time, I believed France was about as big as Congo.
As the 20th century neared its end, grumblings were heard regarding the Mercator projection.  It was pointed out that the areas where white people live are shown to be much larger than the areas where dark-skinned people live.  In other words, Mercator is racist.  Forces agitated for the adoption of an alternative projection, specifically Peter’s projection.  The Savvy Traveller writes:

A variety of social and religious groups argue that since the Mercator map makes many countries appear smaller than they really are, people seeing them may infer that certain countries are innately more important than others. This rhetoric has often escalated to the point where the Mercator map is openly described as being “racist”. Many of these groups are working to address this perceived problem by lobbying schools around the world to adopt the Peters projection map in classrooms. This movement is not without controversy, however, since educators, well-aware of the Mercator map’s deficiencies, were already adopting maps based on other projections, some of which are even more accurate than Peters.

One school of thought advocated putting the South on top and the North on the bottom.  After all, their reasoning went, putting the North on top implies that those who live in the North (mostly whites) are better than those who live in the South.  Some of my family members agreed with this point and one of them even displayed an “upside down” map of the world on his wall.  To a certain extent, I can understand this point of view.  After all, it is completely arbitrary that North appears on top and South on the bottom of most maps.   There was a time when it could be either way; the North-on-top convention had not yet set in.  This in mind, I would like to suggest that all schools start using the following map:

I think it is noteworthy that, while anti-white forces have won almost all their battles, there have been few, if any, recent efforts to impose a “people-of-color” friendly projection upon us.  I do not think this is an oversight; instead I think the forces of evil have decided to go along with Mercator and North-on-top.  The reason is probably that they must continue to portray “people-of-color” as underdogs if they wish to avoid arousing the anger/fear of what remains of the white world.  By depicting nations such as Congo as small, the masses can be fooled into thinking they pose no threat.  By showing them on the bottom, the masses can be fooled into thinking that whites still have the advantage.
If everybody realized that just one African nation, Congo, is as large as all of Western Europe and could easily overwhelm Western Europe with its large population and fertility rates, perhaps more people would be appropriately alarmed.  The powers that be do not want alarm; they want complacency.  The Mercator projection inspires complacency – and so, it remains.

Malta under seige

“Xenophobia” is one of those words the anti-white movement has misused and twisted.  A phobia is an irrational, persistent fear of something.  Dictionary.com defines “xenophobia” as…

an unreasonable fear or hatred of foreigners or strangers or of that which is foreign or strange.

But there is nothing unreasonable about fearing waves of uninvited migrants to your nation, when the nation in question is Malta.  Malta is a small collection of islands comprising only 122 square miles.  It is one of the most densely populated nations on Earth and its inhabitants are more or less homogeneous.  Maltese is a Semitic language, though it is written in Roman characters and has many Indo-European loan words.  Given this scenario, no reasonable person could claim that the influx of thousands of black Africans would do Malta any good.  Yet this is exactly what has been going on over the past decade.  Watch this Euronews documentary video and it is not difficult to envision a repeat of the process that has taken place all over the Western world: 1) black African refugees arrive 2) crime, filth and disease arrive with them 3) they date/attack local women 4) local resentment grows 5) the blacks blame their failings on “racism” or “xenophobia” but insist on staying 6) they have many children and use up social services 7) large swaths of the victim country become little Africas, where whites enter at their own peril.  Is this the future that Malta desires?  Is it “phobic” to wish to avoid it?
Malta finds itself at risk, according to the Euronews video, because of its geographical location.  Or perhaps the Africans mistakenly believe it is the source of Malt Liquor – in which case a change of name should be considered.  Either way, this tiny nation cannot afford to be nice to African migrants if it is to survive as a nation.
It seems there are parallels between Maltese and Hebrew, other than the fact that they are both Semitic, and  I found an interesting article that compares the rebirth of Maltese, as a national language, to that of Hebrew:

But how was Maltese preserved and elevated, and what was Hebrew’s role in the matter? In the late 1870s. A handful of local scholars believing that Maltese descended from the dialect spoken in Carthage and originally brought there by the Phoenicians and later known as “Punic” deserved to respected rather than held in contempt. They argued that, as a language closely related to the Hebrew and Aramaic spoken by Jesus and the disciples, Maltese had a noble affiliation to them both. How could such a language be fit only for the market or the fisherman’s wharf and boat? Why should it be denied as the language of instruction in the schools, the courts and capable of producing a great literature?
Only in the mid 19th century, did scholars finally adapt Maltese to a written standard using Latin letters and thereby greatly increased literacy. This success brought immense new prestige to the language that was the spoken vernacular of more than 95% of the island’s population. The publication of a book in Italian “Saggio intorno alla lingua Maltese come effine all’Ebraico in 1880 enabled the cause of Maltese to finally make headway among many of the island’s Italian speaking intellectuals who had previously spurned the language. The author of the book, Annibale Preca, argued for the close association of Hebrew and Arabic with Maltese…

What a shame it would be if, after all the effort spent on resurrecting Malta’s fading heritage, it were transformed into a mere outpost of Africa.*

Tyler Perry and black charity

When I saw that entertainment mogul Tyler Perry had pledged to rebuilt the home of an 88-year-old Georgia grandmother, pay her rent in the interim and buy her all new furniture, I immediately assumed that the grandmother, and her family, must be black.  But we wouldn’t know if from the AP press release.  Nor would we know if from the Yahoo article.  We would not know it from the newsone article.  We would never be able to figure it out from the local Access Atlanta blurb either.  TV guide also gives no hint of this.  The Los Angeles Times is the same way.  Every one of the news outlets above, and many more, were careful to include a photo of Perry in the article, even though he is a celebrity and most people would probably already know what he looks like.  Generally, when people are the beneficiaries of unusual charity, the media is sure to publish photos of them.  Why, in this case, was it not done?
Clearly, the media establishment wants to be certain the entire world knows that a black celebrity was generous with his money.  How was I able to confirm that the grandmother, and her family, are black?  Through the website of a T.V. station, whose article was published before Perry got involved.  Here is the photo:

The media is suppressing the race of the beneficiaries just as it is accustomed to suppress the (black) race of the perpetrators of crime when it is possible to do so.
I want to emphasis that there is absolutely nothing wrong with blacks taking care of other blacks first and foremost.  I do not fault Perry for doing this.  On the contrary, he is worthy of praise.  But I do fault the media for misleading the public and trying to portray this as if Perry is colorblind in his good works.

Kenyan innovation

American Renaissance linked to a very entertaining, if somewhat sad, video of a Kenyan with dreams of building his own aircraft and revolutionizing the way private airplanes are built.
As I watched the video, I pondered how many blacks and negrophiles have clicked on that link and thought to themselves, “please tell me this is some kind of joke!”  Unfortunately for them, it is no joke.
What would happen if Mr. Dawitu were to succeed in getting his unwieldy contraption airborne?  Chances are, it would have crashed into a house and killed somebody.  It turns out there is a followup to this story:
Mr. Dawitu had already experienced a personal encounter with H.B.D.  Now it was time for him to experience big government; it turns out his plans cannot be consummated legally because all aircraft must have permits from the Kenyan government.  Not only that, but all pilots must be licensed.  Perhaps, after appreciating the futility of his plans, Mr. Dawitu contacted the Kenyan government himself, as a means to avoid the embarrassment of giving up on his own.
Is it possible that an anarchist society cannot flourish unless there is a certain minimum average I.Q.?  I suspect this might be the case.  Be it as it may, Mr. Dawitu’s efforts, and money, are certainly better spent on other endeavors.

Ethiopians in Israel

Stupidity can be found among all races and peoples, even among Jews.  For example, in “Operation Moses” the State of Israel airlifted most of the Ethiopian “Jewish” community to Israel.  This was followed up, several years later, with “Operation Solomon“.  The end result was, of course, a new black underclass within Israel.
Personally, I have nothing against Ethiopians; the few I have known were friendly and refined people.  Many Ethiopian women also happen to be quite attractive (in my opinion); this is due to a generous amount of Eurasian ancestry among the peoples of the Horn of Africa.  Mathilda writes:

Anyway, the gist of these collected DNA studies is that Ethiopians are about 40% Caucasian, and are genetically a little more closely related to Mediterranean Caucasian groups like Berbers and Arabs than Western Africans, as is shown by this twig map. The actual amount of admixture varies from one group to another, but 40% is the average of all these samples.

This is all fine and well.  Unfortunately, it does not help the Ethiopians when it comes to average I.Q.  My opinion is that the Caucasian migrations Mathilda speaks of took place before the increase in non-Negro I.Q.’s.  According to Richard Fuerle, in “Erectus Walks Amongst Us“, there are actually selective pressures in Africa that work against high I.Q.  Either way, today’s Ethiopians rank among the lowest in the world for average I.Q.  According to Richard Lynn, in his book “I.Q. and the Wealth of Nations“, Ethiopia has an average I.Q. of only 63.
While it is possible that the so-called Jews of Ethiopia boast higher I.Q.’s than the gentile population, I am not aware of any such studies.  Even if this is the case, and even accounting for the inevitable increase in their I.Q. due to better education, healthcare and nutrition in Israel, it is still hard to imagine them being able to compete with the Jewish citizens of Israel, whose average I.Q. is 94 (according to Lynn – and accounting for the large non-European population there).

Juvenile delinquency is growing even among children as young as 8 or 9 years old. A woman who runs a program in Beersheva to try to help children in elementary school reports that children are remaining at the malls until all hours, ditching school on a semi-regular basis, and often getting involved in petty crime. She describes this as a pattern that is spreading very quickly and involves 300 children under the age of 14 in Beersheva alone. There are also Ethiopian youth gangs in many of the cities where there is a concentration of immigrants such as Rehovot, Rishon LeZion, Netanya, Beer Sheva, Hadera etc., as well as in Tel Aviv. In neighborhoods with a high concentration of Ethiopian immigrants, we have encountered Israeli criminals actively recruiting Ethiopian youths into drug sales and other criminal activities…
… of nine schools with high concentrations of Ethiopians, there are major gaps in achievement between the Ethiopian-Israeli children and the native Israelis in all the important subjects. In another recent study of six schools, 50% of the Operation Solomon children and 48% of the children whose families came 12 years ago in Operation Moses or before (that means they were probably born here) were judged by their teachers as below their class level in reading comprehension. In comparison, 23% of the native Israeli, non- Ethiopian children were so judged by the teachers. In math, 56% of the Operation Solomon immigrant children and 51% of the Operation Moses children were seen as below class level, as opposed to 21% of the “regular” Israeli children.

And so now we find ourselves, several decades after the airlifts to Israel, with a black underclass in Israel.  Is anybody surprised?  What prompted me to write this post was an appeal I got by email:

I hope the organizers of this campaign see this post; I shall attempt to send it to them.  In any case my answer is “no”.  I shall not throw any of my hard-earned money at a hopeless cause.  50 years from now, they will still be making the same appeals; my guess is that Ethiopian D.N.A. will not have changed much by then.

The Africanization of government

We got lucky this time.  Congress chose to let us keep our mortgage interest deductions for another two years.  But, lest we become complacent, we should remember that Congress remains on the lookout to extort ever more of our money.  They have not given up on their plan of doing away with the mortgage deduction, they have simply put it off for a while.  There are other tax credits, such as the 401(k) and charitable gifts, that are in danger.
Let us not lose sight of the fact that a “tax deduction” is only a trick to allow us to keep more of our own money.  It is not a gift from the government.  Yet, even as the government considers these measures, it tries to present them as if they are for our own benefit.  You see, “we” are on the hook for almost 14 trillion dollars.  Let me rephrase that: 14,000,000,000,000 dollars.  Why did “we” fall so deeply into debt?  Because “we” spent too much or because “we” did not make enough to cover our expenses?  A responsible person, balancing his budget each month, would make sure that his expenditures do not exceed his income.  An irresponsible person circumvents such limitations by putting everything on his credit card and living for the now.  This irresponsible person has a high time-preference.  As far as he is concerned, the future exists on a different plane; it is nothing to be concerned about.
A high time preference, such as described above, comes naturally to the tropical races.  As a matter of fact, it even makes sense to a certain degree.  If one’s life-expectancy is only 30, and disease or war might strike him down at any moment, then a “live for today, for tomorrow we may die” attitude is a reasonable one.  Of course, it is also the prevalence of such an attitude that perpetuates this sad state of affairs.  Those who are out to kill you are willing to do so because they, too, do not care about tomorrow.  The disease that might strike you down has no cure because nobody thought it worthwhile to spend the time and effort on technologies to develop a cure; would-be scientists were too busy raping and pillaging.  This state of affairs was normal in Africa until recently and, in many places, still exists.
Within the system that is the U.S. government, we have the political equivalent of Africa in our midst.  Politicians face no serious repercussions from bad decisions they have made.  They are guaranteed a lifelong pension and even positions of prestige.  They have no incentive to plan for the long-term welfare of the population that elected them.  On a whim, they will vote to spend millions on trivial projects.  The economic collapse blog gives us this list:

#1 A total of $3 million has been granted to researchers at the University of California at Irvine so that they can play video games such as World of Warcraft.  The goal of this “video game research” is reportedly to study how “emerging forms of communication, including multiplayer computer games and online virtual worlds such as World of Warcraft and Second Life can help organizations collaborate and compete more effectively in the global marketplace.”
#2 The U.S. Department of Agriculture gave the University of New Hampshire $700,000 this year to study methane gas emissions from dairy cows.
#3$615,000 was given to the University of California at Santa Cruz to digitize photos, T-shirts and concert tickets belonging to the Grateful Dead.
#4 A professor at Stanford University received $239,100 to study how Americans use the Internet to find love.  So far one of the key findings of this “research” is that the Internet is a safer and more discreet way to find same-sex partners.
#5 The National Science Foundation spent $216,000 to study whether or not politicians “gain or lose support by taking ambiguous positions.”
#6 The National Institutes of Health spent approximately $442,340 to study the behavior of male prostitutes in Vietnam.
#7 Approximately $1 million of U.S. taxpayer money was used to create poetry for the Little Rock, New Orleans, Milwaukee and Chicago zoos.  The goal of the “poetry” is to help raise awareness on environmental issues.
#8 The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs spent $175 million during 2010 to maintain hundreds of buildings that it does not even use.  This includes a pink, octagonal monkey house in the city of Dayton, Ohio.
#9$1.8 million of U.S. taxpayer dollars went for a “museum of neon signs” in Las Vegas, Nevada.
#10$35 million was reportedly paid out by Medicare to 118 “phantom” medical clinics that never even existed.  Apparently these “phantom” medical clinics were established by a network of criminal gangs as a way to defraud the U.S. government.
#11 The Conservation Commission of Monkton, Vermont got $150,000 from the federal government to construct a “critter crossing”.  Thanks to U.S. government money, the lives of “thousands” of migrating salamanders are now being saved.
#12 In California, one park received $440,000 in federal funds to perform “green energy upgrades” on a building that has not been used for a decade.
#13$440,955 was spent this past year on an office for former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert that he rarely even visits.
#14 One Tennessee library was given $5,000 in federal funds to host a series of video game parties.
#15 The U.S. Census Bureau spent $2.5 million on a television commercial during the Super Bowl that was so poorly produced that virtually nobody understood what is was trying to say.
#16 A professor at Dartmouth University received $137,530 to create a “recession-themed” video game entitled “Layoff”.
#17 The National Science Foundation gave the Minnesota Zoo over $600,000 so that they could develop an online video game called “Wolfquest”.
#18 A pizzeria in Iowa was given $60,000 to renovate the pizzeria’s facade and give it a more “inviting feel”.
#19 The U.S. Department of Agriculture gave one enterprising group of farmers $30,000 to develop a tourist-friendly database of farms that host guests for overnight “haycations”.  This one sounds like something that Dwight Schrute would have dreamed up.
#20 Almost unbelievably, the National Institutes of Health was given $800,000 in “stimulus funds” to study the impact of a “genital-washing program” on men in South Africa.

The above list does not even take into account the immense waste in military spending, foreign aid and the costs of government programs such as affirmative action, out of control environmental laws and the education system.  Yet Congress has the audacity to tell us to tighten our belts and give them even more money!
In her article “Are Africa’s Commodities and Economic Blessing?” BBC columnist Louise Greenwood details how the presence of valuable natural resources in Africa, rather than being a blessing, have been a curse.  She writes:

In terms of natural resources, Africa is the most abundant continent on earth.
But rather than a blessing, most of Africa’s commodities have proved a burden; allegedly stoking conflict, funding wars and leading to rampant labour market abuse…

Oil, diamonds, Coltan, sugar and cocoa beans are all sources of strife in Africa, rather than tools to lift it out of poverty and misery.  In a sense, Congress abuses its own artificial commodity, dollars, the same way.  The African strongman says, “I’ve got all these diamonds.  I’ll use them to pay off my henchmen, seize power for myself, put away some money in a Swiss account and live well for the rest of my life.”  Congressmen do the exact same thing with dollars – and those dollars are actually the embodiment of our labor.

Race realism versus racial egalitarianism

Some people have difficulties understanding the appeal of race-realism/H.B.D.  They see the statistics we cite and they reply, “there are lies, damn lies and statistics.”  They hear the stories we tell and they reply, “so you got mugged.  Big deal; there have always been rough neighborhoods.”  They see the science books we read and they reply, “your science is not science; it is pseudo-science.  Our scientists are more numerous and they have already refuted your scientists.”  They read the same newspapers we read and they reply, “the news is distorted to depict blacks and Hispanics in a bad light.  Besides, their high crime rates are due to poverty and persecution.”
But more realistically, they will see neither the statistics, our stories, the science or the anecdotal evidence.  Breaking taboos is not easy.  But, for the few who struggle with the issue and truly want to know what we base our convictions upon, here is a brief explanation:
Yes, statistics can lie – but they are probably telling the truth when they agree with our everyday observations.  Yes, our own experiences might be the exception – but they are probably representative of a wider reality when they are similar to the experiences of thousands of others.  Yes, the science might be flawed – but it is probably valid when it goes hand in hand with the reality on the ground and when it persists despite powerful political forces that conspire to silence it.  Yes, news stories can be biased – but when they are consistent around the world and across cultures there is probably something to be learned from them.

American tourist murdered in Israel

I have fond memories of the desert hills of Judea.  As a lad, I would sometimes hike in that area.  Before the intifada, it was relatively safe, even for an obviously Jewish man trekking alone.  On one such hike, I was wandering aimlessly, enjoying the solitude and pondering how many had walked those hills before me.  Merchants, monks, shepherds, and armies.  In my mind’s eye they all marched before me… and then faded into the mist of history.
All of a sudden I came across a lone Bedouin.  He was seated on the ground next to a small bonfire in the middle of nowhere.  He appeared to have no possessions except for what he wore, a couple of metal cups and his kettle, propped up crudely above the flames.  It was a hot day, but Mid-Easterners are wont to drink hot coffee or tea, almost as if to mock the merciless Sun.  As I approached him, he beckoned me to sit with him and he offered me a cup of thick Turkish coffee.
As I sat, sipping the coffee, I tried to communicate with the man.  I still remember that his name was Brahim, short for Ibrahim.  Much to my regret, he knew not a word of Hebrew or English and my Arabic was non-existent at the time.  We gestured friendly gestures.  What impressed me about him was the innocence of his demeanor.  His eyes contained none of the worries or complications of modern life.  The simplicity of his existence set him apart from other people I have known.  There, in the hills of Judea, we were both children of the desert.  There was nothing to divide us or set us against each other.  Only the coffee that served to bring us together.
Now, when I learn of the young woman stabbed to death not far from my old haunt, I weep inside.  Even as she lies cold in the morgue, I wish I could reach out to her and say, “Here.  Drink from this cup of coffee.  I got it from a friend.
