The voyage of the voyagers

Last month, there was a glitch with the Voyager 2 spacecraft, but Earth engineers were able to fix it, even though it’s 11.5 billion miles away. From Forbes:

NASA’s Voyager 2 spacecraft is recovering from a scary moment earlier this week, when its onboard computer automatically shut down the spacecraft’s science instruments to keep the spacecraft from draining its power supply. Engineers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory say the science instruments are back on, and Voyager 2 should get back to science as usual soon.

The trouble started on January 25, when Voyager 2 was supposed to make a 360⁰ roll to help calibrate its magnetometer. But when the spacecraft’s computer tried to execute the commands it needed to make the roll, it got the timing wrong. As a result, two systems that don’t normally run at the same time ended up running at the same time – and both systems draw a lot of power. Since Voyager 2 is running on a limited power supply courtesy of its onboard generator, this was exactly the sort of problem that could have put the mission in mortal peril.

Fortunately, Voyager 2 (like its twin sibling Voyager 1) was programmed to deal with problems like this. When the spacecraft’s computer realized how much power it was drawing, it shut down the science instruments to save power for really critical things, like heating fragile subsystems and communicating with engineers back home on Earth, who could help find and fix the problem.

It took a solid three days to get one of the overlapping, power-hungry systems shut down and the science instruments turned back on – but engineers spent a lot of that time waiting. At the moment, Voyager 2 is 18.5 billion km (11.5 billion miles) from Earth (and counting), and even for radio communications at the speed of light, it takes 17 hours for a message to get from Earth to Voyager, and another 17 hours for a message to get from Voyager back to Earth. So every time engineers at NASA sent Voyager a command, like “turn off that extra system now,” it took at least 34 hours to find out if the command worked and whether it fixed the problem…

Another Quora dialog

We Aspies have a tendency to be direct. Sometimes, we’re too direct for the comfort of others. So we adapt. We try to be subtle, and gently lead people to our way of thinking.

Unfortunately, too many “normies” are conditioned to be oblivious to the obvious. It’s not enough to lead them to the water; we must also pour the water into their mouths. Even then, the very next day, their convictions will have reverted to what they were before, as if nothing had happened.

Getting some people to see the point is a major challenge. They’ll claim you’re making a completely different point. If you’re using reverse psychology, they’ll take you literally. If all else fails, they’ll be offended, and shut down the conversation.

Here’s a dialog I recently had on Quora, in response to this original answer:

I announced to my husband the morning after the 2016 “election” that I wanted “to get the f*ck out of this country”. YES it was due to the POTUS (and ALL the trumpanzees supporting him). We moved the following September to a mountain villa near Valencia Spain.

It isn’t just the POTUS (piece of totally useless shit). It was all of the hatred he exposed in the US. The bigots, homophobes, misogynists, xenophobes, and racists. The willfully ignorant with respect to science and climate change. I knew there were people like that in the US, but I was stunned at the sheer quantity.

I couldn’t get out of the US fast enough and I will never go back. Life here is sane. Healthcare is affordable and amazing. The food is less expensive and much tastier and healthier. Neighbors don’t rant about “those damn X (fill in the blank with the minority or different lifestyle of your choice) destroying everything.” A friend who visited summed it up best. The US now has a “culture of mean”. I have no desire to ever again live in that type of culture.

The above liberal is tired of the racist, xenophobic, Trumpanzies in the US. So where does she flee to? A mountain villa near Valencia, Spain.

It seemed like a fairly white place to me, so I asked her:

I’m sure you moved to an area where Native Spaniards are a minority, so that you can enjoy the Diversity.

It’s a fair question, considering that it’s been the policy of the Democrat Party to reduce American whites to minority status, and Trump campaigned on the promise to slow down this process (at least implicitly). Her response:

Well aren’t you the judgmental — and CLUELESS — moron. I moved to a Spanish village that is 2000 years old. Yes, there are some Brit there. There are also many Spanish, Dutch, Russian, French, German, and Swedish. Maybe you should put your hate back in your pocket where it belongs.

She’s right; what she describes IS diversity, but it’s not Diversity. It wouldn’t pass muster in any US school system, in a residential area or at a large company. If the Rainbow Coalition sues your company for “lack of diversity,” tell them that you’ve got British, Spanish, Dutch, Russian, French etc. – and see how far that gets you. You’d be laughed out of court, and be saddled with a large settlement to pay. My reply:

Can’t help but notice all those ethnicities are white. Do you have a problem with People of Color?

You see? I’m being subtle. I didn’t just blurt out my point, but tried using reverse psychology. Did it work? Not a chance.

Oh. Good. F*cking. Grief. I was asked about other people besides Brits living in my chosen community. I listed who lives there. You want people of color in my village? Then move there. I don’t control who chooses to move where.

It’s shocking, but very likely that in her mind, she’s won the debate. After all, it’s true that she cannot control who moves to her chosen community. I retorted:

Janet Christian: “I’m tired of the trumptards, and the xenophobia in the US… I know! I’ll move to a place that’s almost ALL WHITE to get away from all those RACISTS.” No, you can’t control who chooses to move there, but you CAN control where YOU choose to move – and you chose to move to a place that’s very white. Through your actions, you’ve proved the “Trumptards” right.

Proselytizing to Arabs

… because Arabs are so unsafe in the Portland area. In all seriousness, I can think of only two anti-Muslim incidents in our area in recent history. One was when a man started yelling at two black Muslim girls on a bus, two bystanders intervened, and the man stabbed them, killing both. It was international news. The other was when a woman snatched the hijab off of the head of a Muslim woman. That (black) woman was charged with a bias-crime, and this incident was also nationally reported. Other than that, I see Muslims walking around, going about their business, every day. Nobody bothers them. They are SAFE EVERYWHERE IN PORTLAND. They don’t have to visit Virginia Garcia to be safe, unless they need to be safe from disease and injury.

Do progressives really think they’re going to turn Arabs, most of whom (in my area) are Muslims, into progressive SJWs? It’s hard to tell. The impression I get is that they’re allies against the Evil Deplorable White Men who Vote for Trump (EDWMVTs). It appears that progressives actually mistake this alliance for genuine friendship.

I hope I’m still alive when American progressives find out how wrong they were.

From the mouth of… a liberal

I found this gem on Quora, from a liberal (“liberal hanging by a thread” in his words):

I’ve asked my liberal friends, “Don’t you find it strange that everything you read in the media, every TV show you watch, every movie you watch, every commercial you watch confirms your worldview?” They don’t find it suspicious at all that every corporation magically agrees with them, or worse, that they’re being manipulated to toward a particular worldview. It’s like an episode of the Twilight Zone. But no. These questions go right over their heads. They say, “We’re right. That’s why everyone agrees.” The problem is, not everyone agrees. We have a split government based on the vote of the people.

Speaking of corporations being having a “liberal” worldview, here’s a poster I saw at Discount Tire:

It’s their “Diversity Poster.” They do have another poster showing two white men, but those men are Nascar racers. They’re not anonymous representatives of “Diversity.” As you can see, white men are not important for Diversity. It’s black men who are at the top of the Diversity Totem Pole, as we can see from the poster.

Fury vs. Wilder: Not a racial war

The headline states “Sensational Fury crushes Wilder in heavyweight title rematch.” In this boxing match, British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury (AKA “Gypsy Queen”) crushed his American opponent Deontay Wilder.

For the less perceptive among you, I’ll point out that Fury is white, while Wilder is black. We’re not supposed to notice this… Let me rephrase that: WHITE people are not supposed to notice this. Black people definitely do notice.  Based on the photos, it doesn’t look like there were any happy black faces at the conclusion of this fight.

Leading up to this rematch, Wilder was posed a question. From Business Insider:

The combat sports editor for Sporting News and DAZN, Andreas Hale, asked Wilder if he was looking to create a “big moment in black history.”

Hale said: “In the first fight, you went viral … now, this is Black History Month. Are you looking to make a big moment in black history come February 22?”

Wilder’s answer?

They picked the wrong date, the wrong month for this fight to happen. And when I knock the Gypsy Queen out, we gonna have a black history trivia question — spread it all over the world.

In hindsight, Wilder spoke too soon. Perhaps this occurred to him – as he lay sprawled upon the floor.

But Fury had a different take on the question, which wasn’t even posed to him:

I’m not into all this racial thing with a black man versus a white man in Black History Month.

I will refuse to go into any sort of thing about it. We are two human beings, two heavyweights, at the top of our game. This is not a racial war. This is two heavyweight boxers going toe to toe for all the jewels in heavyweight boxing, nothing more, nothing less.

Still, it wouldn’t surprise me if Fury faces criticism back home. Progressives will hold him accountable for not allowing Wilder to win. No, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if winning a boxing match is considered “racism” in Britain these days.

This is why they hate “The Jews” #2

A while back, I wrote about local Jewish anti-white crusader Sam Sachs. Alas, there is no shortage of Jews who rise up, like dandelions, to “fight hate” and “take a stand against racism.” It’s been a while since I’ve visited The Daily Stormer or Stormfront, but as I recall, their pages are graced with the names of Jews (real or imagined) who make names for themselves demonizing whites – that is to say, demonizing whites who are proud* of being white.

Today’s addition to this Wall of Shame is Rep. Max Rose. Yahoo interviewed him, and published an article about his ideas for fighting neo-Nazi terrorism. In the interview, and in the article, Max equates “white-nationalism” with “white-supremacy” and neo-Nazism. He also condemned Trump’s comment that there were good people on both sides in the Charlottesville incident. Was he there, and did he speak to every one of the protesters? I fail to understand how he could possibly know that every single one of them was evil otherwise. Perhaps he could explain this to us.

At the same time, he has no problem with Islam; he does not equate Islam with “Islamism” or “Jihad.” If Mediagov treated Islam the same way it treats white-nationalism, would it surprise anybody if a swelling of the ranks of Islamic terrorists ensued? Muslims would see no alternatives other than abandoning their faith or terrorism.

Here are some chilling quotes from the article:

“Max Rose is right,” says Jason Blazakis, a terrorism expert at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies and a former top official at the State Department. Blazakis says it is appropriate to treat white nationalist groups as transnational syndicates, a model that runs counter to the “lone wolf” mythology long associated with white supremacist violence. “Rose is asking the right question,” he adds…

“We have to stop talking about free speech,” he says, an allusion to the First Amendment rights that white supremacists frequently invoke, as do the civil libertarians who may loathe racism but worry about threats to the Constitution…

The remedy Rose has proposed is to treat any American white nationalist group that associates with similar groups abroad as a foreign terrorist organization. The list of those organizations, which is kept by the State Department, now has 69 members and includes the likes of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade and the Real Irish Republican Army.

At some point, as American demographics continue to deteriorate, Max’s vision will probably become reality – and I’d like to adapt an old saying:

First they came for the Neo-Nazis, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Neo-Nazi.

Then they came for the White-Nationalists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a White-Nationalist.

Then they came for the White-Advocates, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a White-Advocate.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Max, if your vision of America comes to fruition, then it’s only a matter of time before they come for YOU.

If Max seeks to understand the roots of anti-Semitism, he need only look in the mirror. I have no doubts that The Daily Stormer is having a field day with Max’s outbursts. Jews like Max are the reason so many white-advocates consider Jews to be the arch enemies of whites. Jews like Max complain about the spreading fire of anti-Semitism even as they throw kerosene upon the flames.

In the interview, Max points out that there are very few Jews in the world… Has he looked at white birthrates lately? I can’t help but get the impression that he desires the same fate for whites. Either that or he’s simply a political opportunist, with no convictions whatsoever.

If he has a problem with ethnic nationalism, then let him start with Israel. I’m not holding my breath.

Max, if you read this, I would love to get a response. Again, I’m not holding my breath.

 

*“Proud” being a word with more than one meaning. It doesn’t necessarily involve one’s own accomplishments; it depends on context.

“Mature, responsible countries”

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has chided China for expelling journalists. From The Week:

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is condemning China for its decision to expel three reporters from The Wall Street Journal from the country.

“Mature, responsible countries understand that a free press reports facts and expresses opinions,” Pompeo said in a statement on Wednesday. “The correct response is to present counter arguments, not restrict speech.”

This came after China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said three journalists from the Journal would have their credentials revoked over the paper’s recent headline, “China Is the Real Sick Man of Asia,” The New York Times reports.

The moment I saw this, I couldn’t help but wonder if Mr. Pompeo has any idea that his own government, and some of its allies, have been guilty of the same crime that he’s chiding China for.

How can our Secretary of State not know that:

Lauren Southern was deported, and banned, from the UK for criticizing Islam. Listen to her account of what happened to her here.

Jared Taylor was deported, and banned, from the European Union for advocating for white people.

Richard Spencer was banned from the EU also for advocating for whites.

Greg Johnson was arrested, and almost deported, from Norway for advocating for whites.

US Border Control agents prevented a Canadian colleague of Greg Johnson from entering the US under an obviously false pretense that he was planning on “working” in the US without a work visa.

It wouldn’t take much effort to compose a longer list, but this one should suffice for my point.

Mr. Pompeo, instead of criticizing China’s authoritarian regime, why don’t you first focus on protecting freedom of speech in America, and among America’s allies?

Good news from Common Dreams

Here are a couple of recent emails I got from the far-left loony group Common Dreams:

Friend,

Last week, McClatchy Company, one of the biggest local newspaper publishers in the country, filed for bankruptcy.

It’s just the latest blow to a journalism industry already in a death spiral—and that should worry everyone.

Since 2004, 1 in 5 newspapers has gone out of business. Newsrooms have been gutted. Pittsburgh, a city of 302,000, has no daily newspaper at all.

What does it mean for democracy when journalism fails? It means more corruption in government and less accountability for corporate polluters and Wall Street fraudsters. It means a less informed electorate and an even easier pathway to power for aspiring autocrats, like Donald Trump.

This was part of a fundraising effort. No, I did not donate. Maybe I’m being unfair, but it seems to me that there are NO major newspapers in the US that provide objective news anymore. The entire industry is blighted and malignant. The downfall of such an industry does not mean that the public is “less informed;” it means that the public is less MIS-informed.

It’s a little off topic, but I’m frequently reminded of the damage a dishonest newspaper industry can cause to the human mind. I’ve been debating a woman on Quora. She based her “point” entirely upon newspaper reports – mostly of the events in Charlottesville. I wasn’t there, but I’ve spoken to people who were, and the newspaper accounts are completely wrong. Years of exposure to such lies will damage a person’s mind, to the point where one cannot conduct any sort of rational discussion with him. I don’t see much of a difference between extremist neo-Nazis and extremist Antifa-sympathizers. They suffer from the same mental disorder.

Here’s another email from Common Dreams:

Friend,

Since November, billionaire Michael Bloomberg has spent more than $360 million on campaign ads.

That money went directly into the pockets of the corporate media, and now, those same corporate media outlets are treating Bloomberg as a top contender.

That’s not journalism. That’s bribery.

Let’s face it, American democracy is in crisis, and the corporate media is a huge part of the problem.

CNN and NBC are motivated by profit, just like Dow Chemical or General Motors, and they’ll never bite the hand that feeds them.

Funny we don’t see Common Dreams complaining about the SPLC, which treats “hate” as an industry, and soaks up many millions of dollars. Its current assets amount to almost half a billion dollars. Corporate America provides much of the SPLC’s funding.

Where’s the outcry over corporate support for La Raza? Read this 2007 Amren report for the long list of La Raza’s sponsors. There is not a single corporation, educational institution, government agency or NGO that supports white advocacy…

… and yet groups such as Common Dreams have the nerve to cry foul when a political rival tries to buy his way into office.

Duolingo

I’ve been brushing up on my Arabic using the mobile Duolingo application. I highly recommend this program. It’s effective, addictive, and includes a large variety of languages, including endangered ones.

I did notice that the Arabic program uses same-sex couples in its narratives. How progressive of them. However, it doesn’t seem to recognize the State of Israel, instead referring only to “Palestine.”

Baltimore’s mayor problems

Former Baltimore mayor Catherine E. Pugh may end up in prison on corruption charges. From the Washington Post:

Federal prosecutors laid out an array of new details from their investigation into former Baltimore mayor Catherine E. Pugh in documents filed Thursday as they argued she should receive nearly five years in prison for conspiracy and tax evasion.

The 37-page sentencing memorandum, accompanied by financial records and copies of checks, for the first time pinpointed the number of “Healthy Holly” children’s books Pugh sold — and resold. It outlined her efforts to conceal her dealings, including lying to FBI agents who came to her house to seize her cellphone.

 

It also raised further questions regarding the roles of Baltimore City Comptroller Joan Pratt, who co-owned a business with Pugh that prosecutors say was used to launder an illegal campaign contribution and which filed a false tax return, and of a major city contractor who wrote out a check to that business in addition to buying Pugh’s books…

Prosecutors told the judge that Pugh knowingly sought to defraud purchasers of her “Healthy Holly” books, reap financial and political benefits, and pay little or no taxes. They accused her of compounding an array of problems already facing the city and of feigning an interest in addressing childhood obesity with the books on healthy lifestyles for kids.

If you actually believe that she’ll serve nearly five years in prison for her crimes, then you’re being naive. If she serves any time at all, it will be minimal. Perhaps she’ll even get reelected, as mayor, after she gets out – like Washington DC mayor Marion Barry.

You can be forgiven if you’re confusing her with the Baltimore mayor who infamously said, regarding the most recent Baltimore riots:

It’s a very delicate balancing act. Because while we try to make sure that they were protected from the cars and other things that were going on, we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well.

That was actually Stephanie Rawlings-Blake – who is also black, and also female.

On that note, I would suggest that the voters of Baltimore take a break from any concerns they may have about Diversity, and instead focus on electing mayors who actually care about the city. Being black, or being female, shouldn’t be a qualification; being an upstanding citizen is more important.
